Starting his bike, he grips the back of my head pulling me in for a final kiss before riding out the gate, out of sight and possibly my life- I can't stop this horrible feeling that i'm never going to see him again.
Cora comes up beside me and places her arm around my waist. I sag against her, already feeling so weak from today. Cora and my mother are the only two who know exactly what's going on with me, and I plan to keep it that way. I don't see the point in worrying everybody else unnecessarily when there's nothing that can be done.
"He'll be back before you know it," she says, watching the empty street with me. "How about we go and stare at the beautiful little girl of yours for a while? She's so sweet she could cheer anyone up."
Wiping at my eyes, I nod and walk slowly beside her, taking notice when I see Monique watching me as she leans against on of the poles under the clubhouse awning. I can see that she knows something is going on, but she doesn't question me about it. She knows better than to do that. This is Old Lady business, and she isn't one of us yet.
As I turn my head away from her, my vision suddenly blurs, and the last thing I hear is my name being yelled as slip out of Cora's arms and collapse on the ground.
